Nike+ Training System: Exercise Tracker Plus Real-Time Coach!

Personal fitness monitors do well in data collection, but disappoint while coming up with useful renditions. Users usually have no procedure to put speed, distance and calories in terms of metrics that may assist them get better over time. The Nike+ Training system boasts of being the sole monitor that records data, exercises it, and offers real-time coaching.
The system is made up of a couple of sneakers with Bluetooth-fitted sensors plus an iPhone app with pre-programmed trainings. Throughout a training session, the app sends out inspiring indications (like ‘Move faster!’) to the user. Once the session is coplete, the app analyzes the user’s stats advising him on his weak spots. The midsole of the Lunar TR1+ trainers has been developed from Nike’s lightweight shock absorbent foam. The midsole houses a printed circuit below the detachable sock liner, designed to gather data of the user’s every single step. Sports sensor adds distance and speed data from the available accelerometer, and the collective data is then shared via Bluetooth 4.0 to Nike+ app. This sensor could be charged through USB. The Nike+ app shall produce the results employing some algorithms, which could be then referred by the user to better his workout.

Tropical Island Paradise Yacht

The super yacht that comes with its own VOLCANO: Multi-million pound boat which is a paradise island.

This is the next super-yacht set to hit the world's oceans - which comes complete with its own functioning volcano and floating tropical islands.
The vessel - dubbed the 'Tropical island Paradise' - has been designed by British boat builders Yacht Island Design, from Derby, Derbys - some 90 miles from the sea.
The extravagant 295ft ship boasts a towering volcano with a cascading waterfall which feeds the swimming pool.
Luxury: This yacht will soon be cruising the oceans with its very own floating tropical islands

And playboys will feel right at home with the ships helicopter landing pad and huge bar set behind a series of beach cabanas.
Studio director Rob McPherson at the Derbyshire firm, who have also created the Streets of Monaco super-yacht, said: 'The exterior was designed to give the impression of waves breaking around a volcanic island, whilst maintaining the look of a contemporary yacht design.
'It comes with its own private beach cove and a waterfall cascading down from a volcano.
'This design centres around a secluded island paradise, with elements inspired by the islands of the Caribbean, Indian Ocean and Polynesia. It is set to be a big hit when it comes onto the market.'
The lavish yacht can accommodate up to 10 guests - and can travel along at a top speed of 15 knots.
The main deck is a secluded beach 'cove' of cabanas surrounding a massive ocean view swimming pool.
Spectacular: There is also a huge helicopter landing pad for those quick trips to shore
And should the millionaire future owners get tired of taking a dip in the pool, they can sail out into the sea on their very own floating island complete with deck chairs and palm trees.
McPherson added: 'We had two reasons for designing such a boat. The first being that it's good fun, and secondly the current market is pretty saturated with designs that look fairly similar.
'Our mission is to work on incredibly fun designs and carve a niche for ourselves within the market, a place where other designers fear to tread.'
Inside the huge, towering volcano is a cinema, library, games room, gym, spa and VIP suites - including an owners pad spread over two decks.
The boat - which has yet to hit the market and hasn't had a price set - is causing waves in the boat building world with its unique design.

Make toasts your favorite bread in a blink of an eye

Toasters have not had a makeover in eons, and although the old-fashion model has always gotten the job done in the past, adding a little more interest to an age-old design is commendable if it works well. This courteous contraption not only toasts your favorite bread in a blink of an eye, it also graciously tips it directly onto your waiting plate ready to be dressed with your favorite toppings.

World's Biggest Chocolate Bar

World's first commercial Spaceport

Phase one of the world's first commercial Spaceport, which will be the hub for Virgin's consumer spaceflights, is now 90 per cent complete.
The 1,800-acre Spaceport America site, in Las Cruces, New Mexico, is the home base for Virgin Galactic, Richard Branson's most ambitious business venture yet.

It already boasts a runway stretching to nearly two miles long, a futuristic styled terminal hanger, and a dome-shaped Space Operations Centre.
The work is now just months away from completion, according to a spaceport spokesman, and is set to be done by the end of the year, well in time for the first expected Virgin Galactic spaceflights in 2013.

Christine Anderson, the newly appointed executive director of the New Mexico Spaceport Authority, told SPACE.com she was 'jazzed' about the progress made so far.

'When you think about what a feat that is, to build all that anywhere, but then to build it in the middle of the high desert in New Mexico - that’s a small city that was built,' she said.
'So hats off to all the contractors and architects and everybody else that spent a lot of time and sweat equity in its development.'
But Ms Anderson has already met challenges. No sooner had she started in her new job, the New Mexico legislature slashed the spaceport office budget by more than half.
And there is no firm date yet for Spaceport America to begin operations.

Volvo to introduce luxury sedans in India next year

Swedish automobile manufacturer Volvo Cars Corp is considering introducing corporate editions of its luxury sedans S60 and S80 to shore up volumes in the Indian market.

Tomas Ernberg, the new managing director for Volvo Auto India said, “We are looking at introducing stripped-down version of our luxury sedans. The corporate editions would have less features and may hit the Indian market in the first quarter of the next year.” A stripped-down version would help Volvo reduce the prices of its cars and help compete with much larger German rivals BMW, Mercedes and Audi.

BMW had, in the past, introduced a cheaper variant of its 3-series sedan to attract more customers. The 3-series sedan is the largest selling BMW car in India. The company sold 2381 units of the 3-series sedan in the last financial year. The sedan accounted for over a third of the total sales for the company in India in 2010-11.
Currently, Volvo Cars imports and sells luxury sedans S60 and S80 and premium sports utility vehicles (SUVs) XC60 and XC90 in the country. Volvo cars in India are priced between Rs 27 lakh and Rs 52 lakh (ex-showroom).

The company has no plans to set up a manufacturing unit in India in “the foreseeable future”. “In the segments in which we have products, our pricing is aggressive and comparable to competition. We are not looking at setting up an assembly unit in the near future”, said Ernberg. The company’s scale of operations in India is currently small. Volvo sold 130 units last year and expects to triple its sales to 400-500 units this year. It sells its four models through seven sales outlets in New Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Kochi and Pune.

The luxury car market in India stood at around 15,000 units in 2010. The segment has been posting strong growth numbers and is projected to increase by 40 per cent to touch 21,000 units this year. BMW sold 7,079 units in the last financial year, compared with 6,753 units sold by Mercedes Benz and 3,982 units sold by Volkswagen Audi. Volvo Cars is owned by Chinese automaker Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co, which bought the company from Ford Motor Co last year.

Device to Fix the Touchscreen Problem

The Finger Stylus is a simple little ring with a bump on it that will let us all use our capacitive touchscreen gadgets much more easily. It is kind of a wonder something like this hasn’t been invented before. Its simple design involves little more than a flexible ring that fits around a thumb and a small protruding piece that looks to be made of silicon or rubber. The bump activates the capacitive touchscreen just like a finger would, but without the need to take off your gloves or cut your fingernails. Both of these things make it extraordinarily difficult to use a touchscreen normally. According to the inventor, the Finger Stylus would not only make it easier to use touch screen devices; it would improve accuracy as well. If you find yourself constantly fat-fingering your text messages or missing the mark on Angry Birds because of long nails, start sending good vibes in the direction of Park Hyun Jin in the hopes that the Finger Stylus some day becomes a real, purchasable item.

Portable Virus Eliminating Air Purifier

Portable Virus Eliminating Air Purifier providing portable air purification that eliminates 99% of viruses. The device sets up unobtrusively on a desktop or fits in a car’s cup holder and emits harmless, positively charged hydrogen and oxygen ions that envelop negatively charged viruses and bacteria like H1N1 and MRSA. The hydrogen and oxygen ions penetrate the contaminants’ membranes and destroy their DNA, rendering the microorganisms incapable of reproduction and survival. The device also neutralizes allergens, tobacco smoke, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted by some paint and furnishings. The filterless device eliminates the need to clean or replace costly filters and it produces only 29 decibels of noise–about the same as a whisper.

MiniDock cord-less wall charger

MiniDock cord-less wall charger and display-docking station for the iPhone has been released by Bluestation. It employs the Apple USB Power Adapter and can be utilized for household and travel charging needs. Users of this device do not have to put up with tangled wires and cords. They are enabled to charge and display their iPhone in an upright position through any electrical outlet. This light-device powers the smartphone directly from the wall socket and doesn’t take up any table or desk space. The need to deal with wayward cords while packing for travel is eliminated with this compact charging station. It does not clutter the workspace as it stands straight on the charger itself.

Electric Bike Charges at Urban Solar Stations

Patrolman is not only all-electric; it’s charged by solar stations that would be built in strategic locations all around the city. The compact bike includes a GPS, headlights and a battery indicator in its briefcase-like body. Perhaps the name is a reference to how useful electric cycles would be to the police force – or maybe it’s simply an allusion to the safety of the bright lights incorporated on the front of the bike. While electric cycles might be the future of urban transportation, the seemingly-endless designs out there all tend to look the same after a while. The Patrolman has a distinctive look that might help it stand out in a crowded field, but the designers would definitely have to do something about that painful-looking seat before marketing this futuristic concept bike in reality.

Robot Vacuum Cleaner – Robo TAP

Robo TAP is an indoor positioning system as it follows its own route to vacuum household floors. This design improves upon automatic vacuums like Roomba by giving users more hands-on control. When you want it to pay attention to a particularly dirty spot, you just tap your foot twice to summon it. The foot-controlled Robo TAP keeps you on your toes.

Super-Helpful Rotating Pencil

The Mitsubishi Pencil Company wants to ease your headaches with their Kuru Toga pencil. It’s a mechanical pencil with a tiny motor in it that rotates the lead a little bit every time you lift it from the paper. With the pencil always keeping your lead fresh, you’ll never again have to deal with the pain of blurred lines or the irritation of too-sharp leads ripping your paper. As far as we know, it’s only a minor irritation that occurs once in a while – but to some people, the self-rotating pencil could probably save some time and frustration.

Cube Laser Virtual Keyboard

The Cube Laser Virtual Keyboard has a very liquid interface for its laser projection, so the image of the keys is much better than before. It pairs with devices via Bluetooth, which means that it is compatible with most smartphones, tablets, and even laptops. The touchscreen keyboards are quiet, and it is moving away from traditional button keyboards. Fortunately, it is to wait a little while to get over my fascination with keyboard sounds as the Cube Laser Virtual Keyboard comes with gesture recognition software so that the user can hear the click to indicate control gestures as well as keystrokes.

Portable Wireless Electricity Source

Alternative energy storage device the Yill can hold up to 300 watts of transportable energy. It can then be rolled around to wherever you need some electricity. The Yill can power a workstation for up to three days and needs only four hours to recharge. It would be a great source of movable electricity for people who love working outside or even for emergency backup power. An internal lithium titanium battery keeps the electricity ready for use. A relatively lightweight, easily transportable energy storage gadget is a great idea, but given the shape it looks like it’s meant to be charged by an internal dynamo as it’s rolled along the floor. Using grid energy means it isn’t as green as we would like to see, but if it were used to store solar or wind energy the concept would get a big stamp of approval.

South Sudan becomes world's 193rd country

Juba: South Sudan has become the world's newest nation -- 193rd country recognised by the UN and the 54th UN member state in Africa -- after a peace deal that ended a long and bloody civil war, BBC reported Saturday.

Sudan's President Omar al-Bashir and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon were among international dignitaries attending the celebrations in the capital, Juba.

Sudan earlier became the first state to officially recognise its new neighbour.

The south's independence follows decades of conflict with the north in which some 1.5 million people died.

The BBC's Will Ross in Juba said the new country's problems were put aside for the night Friday amid an air of great jubilation.

People were in the streets, cheering, waving South Sudan flags, banging drums and chanting the name of President Salva Kiir Mayardit, he added.

Hi-tech Glasses for the blind

Bionic spectacles could soon be on sale to help hundreds of thousands of blind people ‘see’.

Oxford University researchers are developing ‘smart spectacles’ that use tiny cameras and a pocket computer to alert wearers to objects and people ahead.
They will make it easier for the blind to navigate shopping centres and busy train stations, and could even allow them to ‘read’ bus numbers and the computerised displays on cash machines.
The lightweight, inexpensive glasses, which could be ready for general sale as early as 2014 if tests are successful.
Previous attempts to create such a device have resulted in large dark glasses with clunky cameras and bulky computers.
But advances in technology mean it should be possible to create bionic spectacles that look almost indistinguishable from standard glasses.

Transparent glasses with lenses studded with small light-emitting diodes and cameras the size of a pinhead at the outside top corners of the frame.
The cameras will take in the information the eyes should see and send it down a cable to a mobile phone-sized computer in the wearer’s pocket.
The computer will process the information and simplify it into a pattern of dots. The LEDs in the lenses then light up in that pattern, giving the wearer vital information about what lies ahead.
A flickering light could mean there is a person ahead, while a solid block might signify an object such as a flight of stairs.
While such information may seem unimpressive to the sighted, it could allow those who have lost much of their vision to regain sufficient independence to go shopping alone or take public transport.
Adding in an earpiece could allow more complex information to be transmitted.
For instance, the cameras could capture bus numbers or information on railway departure boards to be analysed by the computer. Once processed, the information would be passed on to the wearer via a voice in their ear.

Phone to serve as mobile shopping device

The future of the mobile phone may lie in its use as a mobile shopping device, according to a discussion among global mobile executives at the SNS Future in Review (FiRe) technology conference. Scanbuy Corp. announced at FiRe a new barcode system scheduled for U.S. release this summer which will allow users to wirelessly purchase and ship products using their mobile device’s pre-barcode-fitted camera. Chetan Sharma, President of Chetan Sharma Consulting, hosted the “Future of Wireless” panel, which included Gary Roshak, Vice President, Mobile Advertisers and Publishers, Yahoo!; Jonathan Bulkeley, CEO, Scanbuy; Hugh Bradlow, CTO, Telstra; and Rajeev Chand, Managing Director and Senior Equity Research Analyst, Wireless, Rutberg & Co.

Countertop Ice Maker freezes ice cubes in least time

The Countertop Ice Maker make the most ice in the least amount of time and was the quietest unit tested. The Best model made 18 1/2 lbs. of ice in eight hours–56% more than a lesser model–and required only 8 minutes to make a 12-cube batch. The Best Ice Maker did not even register a reading on the decibel meter, far superior to other units that produced up to 24.8 decibels of noise. The Best model earned a perfect score for ease of use because it only requires the user to fill it with water, select an ice cube size, and push the start button. The Best Ice Maker freezes ice cubes in three different sizes, it produces up to 33 lbs. in 24 hours, and has an automatic cleaning feature.
